Comic Book 17
Back to article list

28th November 2017

On Monday Miss Nortleys’ Y9 GCSE Art Class visited Manchester Museum and the Whitworth Gallery to take part in ‘Comic Book 17’. Unlike other comics it doesn’t feature superheroes but is based and inspired by exhibits within the museum and art gallery to help create characters, set a scene and develop a plot. A cross curricular project with the English depart, Miss Boyd helped students organise their thoughts and communicate their ideas on paper to turn into a comic story. Manchester Museum plan to sell the publication in their souvenir shop after Christmas.

Students came up with fantastic ideas, showed great creativity and excellent drawing skills whilst taking part in a fun workshop with the famous comic book illustrator Jim Medway. The best part of the day had to be when Jim set students a challenge to sketch members of the public without them knowing and imagine what they were thinking. We can’t wait for Jim to visit Cedar Mount in the new year and help build our final story boards and tweak our sketches.
