The Local Governing Body are responsible for the strategic vision of the academy and for supporting the Principal and his staff in achieving that vision.
The main purpose of the Local Governing Body is to provide local scrutiny, support and challenge on progress against school development plans, student outcomes and well-being and monitor that schools are working within agreed finances and policies. The Local Governing Body is accountable to the Trust Board through the CEO and the Executive Team. There is opportunity for direct accountability to the Chair of the Trust Board via LGB Chairs forum.
The Local Governing Body meets on a half termly basis, generally for no more than two hours.
A wide variety of subjects are considered at each meeting, including the Principal’s report, reports from members of the Senior Leadership Team and, very importantly, the approval of all major policies which underpin the running of Cedar Mount Academy.

Remembering Dr Lloyd Cawthorne – Tribute from Mr Hodgson
Lloyd Cawthorne was a member of the local governing body of Cedar Mount Academy. Sadly, he passed away suddenly and at such a young age; he was just 32. We are shocked and saddened by this news. Lloyd worked at Manchester University, where he lectured in sciences. He was a fantastic governor, bringing energy and thoughtfulness to the role. He would ask inquisitive and probing questions during every meeting often following an answer up with suggestions for further good practice. He supported many other aspects of governing body work including attending behaviour panels and the difficult process of exclusion. Lloyd was a colleague that the school felt helped to add to school improvement and will be greatly missed by governors and staff. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.
