Recently girls from Year 9 & 10 were invited pupils to a red carpet event to premiere a play they devised and starred in at Elizabeth Gaskell House. Esohe, Fatou, Isatou, Mia, Saliem, Shanena and Sharifa attended a workshop with Enjoy Arts as part of ‘Her Hidden Histories’ project and explored the archives at the Police Museum for inspiration. The play, based on the growing suffragette movement, details how women were viewed as a hostile menace in society and the lengths they went to for equality and the right to vote. An emotive piece, it shows how women were sent to prison while fighting for the cause.

The girls had a fantastic time and felt ’empowered’ and ‘confident’ , all agreed it was a great bonding experience and strengthened their friendships.
