Y11 Study Weekend – Ghyll Head
Back to article list

14th May 2018

Dr Boyd, Miss Ford, Miss Reid & Mr Mellen delivered a series of English revision activities during the residential to Ghyll Head.  This was to support our Year 11 students for preparing for their Literature exams on the 22nd and 25th May. The weekend was a huge success – all pupils were really engaged – we loved going outside and exploring the beauty of the Windermere, using the beauty of the surroundings to inspire creative writing too. We had a poetry workshop, Shakespeare ‘Pass the Parcel’ and An Inspector Calls dingbats with quotation analysis. Miss Ford had her groups sitting outside in the sunshine with the glorious Lake Windermere in sight; Dr Boyd took her groups out on a ramble out and about to enjoy the glory of nature (a total of 750 photos, was it?) and Miss Reid took her groups out by the stream and we had a ‘moment’ after reading out our creative writing inspired by our surroundings. Mr Mellen, too, commented on the success of the weekend and the engagement of all pupils.  Thanks also to Mr Gupta, Ms Kaplanidis and Miss Gill for supporting the study weekend – they enjoyed the zip wire, canoeing and what a super driver Miss Gill was so Miss Reid could sleep on the journey home!
